Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Chief Engineer or designee performing a variety of skilled technical work requiring considerable responsibility and independent judgement.

Compensation: $30.04 – $41.08/Hour

Essential Functions:
Inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and perform repairs to building mechanical systems and components (e.g. HVAC, boilers, ventilation, fluid systems, and component parts).
Install, maintain, and repair HVAC, boilers, water heaters, pumps, generators, compressors, steam lines, water lines, gas lines, and electrical systems.
Establish effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Provide prompt, efficient, and responsive service.
Identify, diagnose, correct or recommend action to supervisor.
Operate electrical test equipment and analyze devices to determine potential system or equipment failures.
Adhere to all safety measures.
Determine necessary equipment and materials; and requisition parts and supplies.
Interpret drawings and blueprints for structural mechanical, electrical, and general facilities operating systems.
Perform electrical maintenance (e.g. disconnecting, replacing, and rerouting electrical systems).
Perform minor braising and welding repairs.
Prioritize work requests and orders according to standard operating methods.
Coordinate and oversee contractors.
Perform ongoing maintenance and work orders.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations.
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County Business.
Maintain updated knowledge of equipment technology and trends.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other related duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two (2) years of experience operating, maintaining, or repairing commercial HVAC systems required.
Third (3rd) Grade Engineer License required.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and own mode of transportation at the time of hire and throughout employment required.
Completion of pre-employment background checks and post-offer drug screen and physical assessment required.
A valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment required.

Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions (e.g. adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, fumes, mechanical/electrical hazards, biohazards) Noise level is typically moderate but occasionally high. Incumbents are required to wear personal protective equipment. Work hours are predominately day shift hours and schedule may vary (e.g. days, weekends, hours, holidays, overtime, 24-hour call-ins) Work may be stressful when dealing with multiple/changing priorities and emergency situations.
Work requires considerable physical activity frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing, reaching, and occasional sitting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, and pushing and pulling. Incumbents must have the ability to frequently lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, speech, and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbents must possess eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers and other equipment.
