What is a Career Planning Specialist? These positions assist Nebraska VR clients with interest and aptitude assessments, and explore available opportunities as part of the career planning process. This work requires people who are creative and think outside the box, intuitive, and great communicators.

The goal is to do the best we can to serve the individual clients that come in for good career choices and job matches, and encourage people to be successful.

Examples of Work
Conducts career planning activities with clients by exploring and identifying strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and labor market information.
Completes job analysis to identify and understand job duties and requirements at employer sites.
Prepares evaluation report and meets with clients and other specialists to assist in creation of Individualized Plans for Employment.
Provides career and disability counseling to help clients (adult and high school age students) achieve employment outcomes.
Facilitates individualized assessments and job exploration activities (e.g., interviews, career counseling, assessments, simulated work activities, worksite experiences).
Assists clients in refining job goals by finding resources to maximize strengths or accommodate disabilities.
Develops and maintains partnerships with businesses, community referral sources, and other partnering organizations.
Demonstrates commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Rehabilitation Specialist Additional Functions: Including the functions above, Rehabilitation Specialists will also be responsible for the responsibilities listed below.

Prepares and approves cases for client eligibility, priority groups, job goal, and plan for employment by analyzing and synthesizing medical and psychological reports, social, education, and employment information.
Develops, manages, and approves Individualized Plans for Employment (IPEs), and employment outcome determinations.
Conducts employment discussion and career exploration to assess client strengths and barriers, vocational interests, aptitude, skills, preference, and values.
Advises and instructs adults and high school age youth with disabilities in informed decision making, interpersonal, educational, and vocational skills.
