This position serves as legal counsel to Union Pacific Railroad Company with principal responsibility for legal issues in the safety regulatory area, including compliance monitoring, regulatory interpretation and negotiations with third-parties in high exposure situations. Additionally, this position is responsible for identifying areas of risk and new opportunities presented by various proposals to ensure the Railroad maximizes available benefits and minimize potential risks. Union Pacific has one open position for a General Attorney or Assistant General Attorney. The successful candidate will be offered a position of General Attorney or Assistant General Attorney depending on the successful candidate\'s level of experience. The General Attorney/Assistant General Attorney is primarily responsible for agency and administrative law experience. Accountabilities Conduct research and analyze legal issues Work independently and with a team with excellent judgment and both strategic and tactical thinking Collaborate and effectively partner with internal professionals, including paralegals and risk management, to conduct fact-finding, gather information and mitigate risk Lead, handle, and balance a high volume of matters and assignments Expertise in legal and analytical work and business-oriented pragmatic approach to problem-solving Able to lead situations, prioritize and handle the workload and simultaneous tasks, and meet deadlines in a changing, fast-paced environment Highly responsive and organized Excellent organizational, interpersonal, client relationship, and team skills Develop and coach paralegals Qualifications Required A Juris Doctor degree Excellent oral and written communication skills Admitted to practice law in the state of Nebraska and either admitted or eligible to be admitted in all United States District Courts for the districts in Nebraska 2 or more years of experience working as an attorney Knowledge of various legal areas including the Federal Employers Liability Act, Federal Railroad Safety Act, Title VII, ADEA, and the ADA Work Conditions Work Conditions Benefit information can be found under the Benefits section on ( 18 years of age or older
