Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Water Plant Maintenance Mechanic is responsible to maintain, diagnose and repair all types of water plant and wellfield mechanical equipment to include, but not limited to, basin equipment, mixers, valves, pumps, heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, and residuals dewatering equipment.
Education
•Required – High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Minimum Requirements
•Required – Minimum of 1 year of experience with maintenance of mechanical systems.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing
•Required – Have and maintain a valid driver’s license Upon Hire
•Required – State of Nebraska Grade IV (4) Water Operator License within 1 Year
•Required – HAZMAT Certification within 1 Year
•Required – Certified to wear an Air Purifying Respirator and a Self-Contained BreathingApparatus (SCBA) in order to comply with confined entry procedures and/or chemicalexposure. Certification requires completing a Medical Questionnaire, passing aPulmonary Function Test, Fit Test and compliance with the guidelines of the District’sRespiratory Protection Program. within 60 Days
•Required – Lift-truck certification for operation of a forklift and pallet-jack. within 90Days
•Required – Pre-employment and/or post-offer physical demands screening Upon Hire
•Required – Pre-employment Background Check & Drug Screen Upon Hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Ability to demonstrate minimum competence in maintenance and repair of complicatedhydraulic systems. (Intermediate proficiency)
•Ability to read and comprehend technical training and operating materials. (Advancedproficiency)
•Ability to read, comprehend, and follow District and Division specific Operating andMaintenance Procedures. (Advanced proficiency)
•Demonstrate mechanical ability and experience with hand/power tools. (Advancedproficiency)
•Ability to learn and work with various shop equipment within six (6) months of beingplaced in position. (Entry proficiency)
•Ability to learn and work with Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) operated shopmachinery is preferred.
•Use equipment such as ladders, hydraulic scissor lifts, and other aerial platforms toaccess equipment, as necessary. (Intermediate proficiency)
•Efficient written and verbal communication skills, in English, to assist internal andexternal customers, co-workers and management professionally, regardless ofprovocation. (Advanced proficiency)
•Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required. (Entry proficiency)
•Proficiency with personal computers, tablets, and/or other electronic devices to include,but not limited to, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) andenterprise-wide software (e.g., SAP). (Entry proficiency)
Essential Functions
•Perform scheduled maintenance and make minor repairs to a variety of plant equipmentto include, but not limited to, pumps, mixers, compressors, valves, and basin equipment.
•Maintain and repair wells and well equipment, including oversight and assistance withdisinfection, acid treatment, sampling for testing, and flushing of wells.
•Operate and maintain heating boilers, chillers and other heating, ventilation, and airconditioning (HVAC) equipment.
•Perform basin washing and cleaning of gravity thickeners, residuals holding tank, drainbox, pre-treatment, sedimentation/equalization basins, solids contact units, and reservoir.
•Troubleshoot performance issues with equipment and repair as required to return to afunctional and usable state.
•Enter vaults and tanks to repair and maintain equipment.
•Change oil in various types of equipment and collect oil samples for testing.
•Perform routine housekeeping duties in all plant and wellfield areas.
•Respond to Stop and/or Clean-up Spills of hazardous chemicals at Platte West, Florence,and Platte South plants, as requested.
•Maintain and repair periphery residuals processing system equipment.
•Perform the physical requirements of the position outlined within the Physical DemandsAnalysis.
•Drive District vehicles and operate articulated front-end loader and semi-tractor dumptruck, as necessary.
•Assist in maintaining safety equipment.
•Assist Central Maintenance Division in major repairs or overhauls on plant pumps andequipment.
•Assist, as necessary, Chemical Equipment Mechanic(s) in repair of chemical feedequipment.
•Assist Plant and Wellfield Maintenance Worker(s) as needed, in grounds maintenancethroughout Platte West Water Production facilities.
•Assist with restoration of normal production of Water Treatment Plant and Wellfield inthe event of an emergency situation, including set-up and operation of Wellfieldemergency power generating equipment.
•Assist with daily documentation of activities as required.
•Monitor and operate, through the use of plant and equipment Programable Logic Controls(PLCs), the Platte West Residuals Processing systems, which includes, but not limited to, Plate and Frame Presses, Gravity Thickeners, Residuals holding tank, Drain Box, Sedimentation/Equalization basin equipment, and various Residuals pumps.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
•Field: Work inside and outside in all weather conditions and terrain for extended periodsof time.
