Job description:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Pretrial Release Administrator or designee, assisting in the administration of the Pretrial Services program and Law Library at Douglas County Department of Corrections (DCDC).
Compensation: $34.08 – $51.39/Hour
Essential Functions:
Assist in the operation of the Pretrial Services Program and Law Library, scheduling staff coverage and ensuring service coordination.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Facilitate incarcerated individual standardized services between pretrial and reentry (e.g., assessing risks, needs, release probability).
Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) of assessments and case management duties of assigned Pretrial Case Specialists.
Screen and assess eligibility of incarcerated individuals for program (e.g. Work Release, Reentry Assistance Program) throughout program participation.
Supervise assigned staff (e.g., orienting, scheduling, monitoring, training, assisting, coaching, evaluating, recommending disciplinary actions).
Promote a safe working environment through various activities (e.g., education, safety policy review, safety procedure enforcement).
Review pretrial investigation reports, approving program recommendations to courts, and submitting petitions and designated orders.
Adhere to and ensure staff compliance with policies and program requirements.
Oversee accurate data collection, ensuring proper use of case management systems (e.g. criminal and social history) and generating reports for administrative action.
Coordinate with community-based providers for defendant services.
Assist with other Community Corrections programs (e.g., House Arrest, Work Release, Reentry Assistance).
Supervise and assist incarcerated individuals in the Law Library.
Inform and regularly update staff (e.g., job assignments, client issues).
Receive incarcerated individual program enrollment requests and determine program eligibility (e.g., file review, interview process).
Serve as a link between staff and administration, testifying in court, and collaborating with other justice system entities and notify designated authority of offender program violations.
Collaborate with the Public Defender’s office facilitating expedited prosecution of incarcerated individuals facing misdemeanor charges and unable to make bond.
Facilitate incarcerated individuals furlough requests (e.g., funerals, holidays) for approval.
Review investigation reports and process filing of charges for incarcerated individuals escaping or attempting escape from programs.
Assist in creating or modifying unit policies and analyzing statistical data measuring program outcomes.
Assist with accreditation process efforts.
Contribute to training and development curriculum and functions.
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a criminal justice, law, human services, public administration or closely related field required. *
Three (3) years of human services or criminal justice experience required. *
Work experience in criminal justice and court system preferred.
Valid driver’s license and own transportation upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year for year basis.

Work is performed in an office setting, courtrooms and other judicial offices. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g., days, hours, weekends, evenings, overtime/extra hours). Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources, and uncooperative/irate individuals.
Work requires physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, frequent reaching, and occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching and bending. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
