Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the County Engineer or designee, performing a variety of complex computer aided drafting (CAD) and detailing work in the production of engineering plans, maps and other drawings.

Compensation: $28.93 – $38.24/Hour

Essential Functions:
Reduce and interpret field notes to produce engineering drawings and specifications.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Use a combination of AutoCAD and/or manual drafting skills to layout, draw, ink, and check engineering drawings, maps and specifications.
Compute quantities for construction bid specifications (e.g. earthwork, concrete yardage).
Prepare “as-built” plans after construction project completion maintaining records and verifying/documenting authorized changes.
File and maintain survey records and other documents.
Answer questions from the public regarding subdivision plats and other information.
Prepare right-of-way tract maps and write legal descriptions.
Perform duties of CAD Drafter position description.
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Associate’s degree in Drafting/Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) from an accredited institution required.*
Two (2) years of CADD experience required.*
Valid driver’s license and own transportation upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
*Equivalent combination of experience/education may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed in an office setting with occasional outdoor activities (e.g. site inspections, traffic studies) with exposure to inclement weather and allergens. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. day shifts, weekends, overtime/extra hours, holidays, emergency call-in. Noise level is usually moderate. Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.

Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, reaching and occasional carrying, kneeling, squatting and bending. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
