Position Summary
Under close supervision, the Intern – Information Technology provides support to departments and end-users utilizing the District’s Technology solutions in their daily and regular business operations. Using standard business methodologies and processes, gathers, analyzes, and documents the business rules and requirements from internal functional business units. Works with more experienced analysts during the implementation of solutions to meet identified business needs, including the accurate implementation of District policy, practice, and process within the Technology Solutions. Participates as a contributor in Information Technology related projects or initiatives outside of his/her direct area of responsibility. The IT intern may be assigned work on enterprise applications, business analytics, cyber security, or other IT disciplines.
Education
•Required – Bachelor’s Degree Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. or
•Required – Associate’s Degree Strong candidates pursuing an Associated Degree in computer science or related application development field will also be considered for this position
Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing
•Required – Pre-employment Background Check & Drug Screen Upon Hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Academic knowledge or introductory experience in one or more functional or technical areas: Application Development – Application development, database systems, business intelligence, cybersecurity, computer networks, or system administration. SAP/GIS – Finance, purchasing, materials management, customer relationship management, accounting, billing/invoicing, payroll, human resource management, plant maintenance, database systems, business intelligence, cybersecurity, computer networks, or system administration. (Entry proficiency)
•Knowledge of at least one of the following: Application Development – Programming Language, JAVA, Python, ABAP, C++ or equivalent OR knowledge of SAP ERP, Enterprise Content Management (Open Text), and/or ESRI GIS Systems. SAP/GIS – Application development, SAP ERP, Enterprise Content Management (OpenText), and/or ESRI GIS Systems. (Entry proficiency)
•Proficiency with personal computers, tablets, and/or other electronic devices to include familiarity with, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and enterprise wide software (e.g., SAP). (Intermediate proficiency)
•Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required.
•Capable of organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and requests.
•Ability to successfully meet deadlines.
•Efficient written and verbal communication skills, in English, to assist internal and external customers, co-workers and management professionally, regardless of provocation.
•Ability to focus on business solutions and results first before technology.
•Ability to listen, comprehend, and effectively document business user needs.
Essential Functions
•Interface with one or more functional areas of the District currently using or slated to be utilized SAP/GIS systems as directed.
•Function as a technical resource and provide support on one or more SAP/GIS modules.
•Gather, define and document business requirements on behalf of the business process owners, business system owners, subject matter experts, users, and other stakeholders, then develop functional specifications suitable for implementation.
•Participate in all phases of the system development lifecycle including, requirement gathering, development, and testing.
•Work with colleagues in the design and performance of acceptance tests, change control, and release management processes.
•Act within the spirit of District and Department values.
