Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Public Properties or designee, preparing various surfaces and applying paint, varnish, and other materials.

Compensation: $28.80/Hour

Essential Functions:
Receive work orders, securing supplies and equipment to fulfill project.

Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.

Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.

Complete and maintain service and repair records.

Prepare, prime, sand, seal, patch, finish, and/or paint surfaces (e.g. buildings, furniture, fixtures), sanding and filling holes, cracks, and joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers.

Apply various paints, varnishes, stains, or enamels, decorating and/or protecting interior and exterior surfaces, furniture, and fixtures.

Select pre-mixed paints or prepare paint matching specified colors, creating special effects on surfaces (e.g. multi-colored paints, wall designs, acoustic ceilings) and texturizing ceilings with spray or roller.

Prepare work area utilizing canvas, cloth, and/or tape protecting items from paint and stain.

Prepare plasterboard partitions, taping and priming surface.

Secure wire mesh to supports for use in plastering of ceilings.

Prepare surface and measure, apply, cut and trim wallcloth/wallpaper.

Monitor and maintain supplies and equipment.

Utilize safety equipment (e.g. eye/ear protection, safety boots, hard hats) adhering to required safety standards.

Cleanup worksite, supplies, and equipment and assist in the upkeep of the work area.

Operate, clean, and maintain painting equipment (e.g. brush, roll, sprayers, pumps), storing and labeling materials.

Create signs or other visual or directional aids and develop necessary stencils from cardboard, vinyl, or other materials.

Perform repairs and construction (e.g. drywall, wallpaper, plaster, woodfill, moving items, other labor) within level of expertise.

Train staff on job and serve as a backup during absences.

Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.

Report to assigned work location with regular, consistent attendance.

Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.*

Three (3) year of related work experience required.*

Valid driver’s license and own transportation upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.

Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.

*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed indoors and outdoors. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. nights, weekends, holidays, overtime/extra hours, emergency call-in). Work involves potential exposure to adverse weather, loud noise, vibrations, chemicals, mechanical/electrical hazards, fumes, dust, and biohazards. Work may may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.

Work requires physical activity, including extended periods of standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, frequent climbing, and occasional sitting. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

Required sensory abilities, include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers and other equipment.
