Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services or designee, supervising the facility for assigned shift, providing for quality and continuity of patient care, and ensuring adherence to applicable policies, procedures and standards.

Compensation: $51.03/Hour

Essential Functions:
Review daily staffing requirements and assignments making necessary adjustments ensuring sufficient nursing staff.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Supervise and evaluate staff provided care working with appropriate supervisor to addressing issues.
Promote a safe work environment ensuring staff understand and observe established safety standards.
Align nursing staff assignments with licensure, skills and abilities.
Participate in an interdisciplinary team to promote high quality care sensitive to residents’ needs and rights.
Utilize clinical assessment skills as the basis for resident decision-making process.
Provide staff leadership, mentoring, and coaching in providing resident care.
Report immediately any allegation or suspicion of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property to Director of Nursing and Administrator; document and investigate complaints or allegations and remedy the problem.
Review residents’ medical conditions and overall quality of care working correcting deficiencies.
Direct and monitor Medication Aides observing and taking appropriate action regarding any desired effects, side effects, interactions, and contraindications with administered medication(s).
Perform management administrative functions (e.g. orientation, coaching, performance appraisals, personnel action recommendations).
Respond to emergencies and codes providing assessments, hands on nursing care, and direction.
Act as employee health nurse for assigned shift providing first aid and coordinating workers compensation and accident treatment/testing.
Follow-up on medication and accident reports, incidents, and complaints.
Provide shift report to oncoming House Supervisor and Nursing Administration communicating recommendations on issue resolution.
Coordinate and/or assist with admissions, transfers, deaths and dismissals.
Conduct facility tours for potential admissions.
Serve as a resource and representative to employees, community agencies, nursing schools, and the public.
Obtain items from central supply ensuring appropriate supplies are available.
Perform therapy, treatments and procedures (e.g. IV therapy, respiratory treatments, EKG’s, lab draws) as ordered by physician.
Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Adhere to and enforce policies and procedures related to care, infection control, safe work habits, and proper lifting/moving techniques.
Assist with Quality Assessment/Performance Improvement (QAPI) process by monitoring, evaluating, and resolving identified problems affecting nursing care, the work environment and facility operation.
Assist in revising policies/procedures.
Provide nursing care covering staff shortages.
Maintain current knowledge of nursing, skilled services, and long-term care trends and advances (e.g. seminars, webinars, conferences, research).
Act as the Disaster Coordinator during after-hours emergencies.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as directed and assigned.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university required.*
Registered Nurse with nursing license from Nebraska or a compact state of residence recognized by the Nebraska Board of Nursing at the time of hire and maintained in good standing throughout employment.
Three (3) years of nursing experience in a long-term, rehab, psychiatric, or acute care facility required.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
Basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification required at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal records check and post-offer drug screen, physical assessment, and health review required.
* Equivalent work experience may be substituted for educational requirements beyond high school on a year-for-year basis.

Work performed in a health care facility assigned to specific shifts; however, schedules may vary (e.g. days, hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, emergency call-ins). Work involves potential exposure to biohazards and injury from distraught residents. Noise level is usually moderate but could be extreme. Work may be stressful when dealing with multiple/changing priorities, limited resources, emergencies and/or uncooperative/irate individuals.

Work requires physical activity including extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and occasional sitting, kneeling, climbing, stooping, crouching, and balancing. Work also requires constant reaching between knees and shoulders and frequent reaching below knee level. Incumbents must be able to independently lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and push/pull up to 50 pounds with grip strength of 65 pounds.

Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbents must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
