Job description:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Long-Term Care Administrator or designee, providing consultative pharmaceutical services adhering to professional standards and Douglas County Health Center (DCHC) policies and procedures.
Compensation: $67.22/Hour
Essential Functions:
Consult and advise physicians, nursing staff, and patient/resident families regarding pharmaceutical usage, dosages, interactions, side effects, and drug preparations.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Select, prepare and dispense various (e.g. compound, intravenous) medications, reviewing prescriptions and ensuring product safety.
Verify prescriptions prepared by Pharmacy Technicians.
Ensure prescription orders are entered in appropriate systems.
Maintain adequate medication and supply inventory (e.g. monitoring stock levels, purchasing medical supplies, recording transactions).
Monitor patient/resident health and progress ensuring safe and effective medication use.
Collaborate with departments improving and implementing efficiencies in policies and protocols.
Provide clinical chart reviews monitoring the effectiveness of therapies.
Oversee intern and Pharmacy Technician work, providing technical guidance.
Ensure pharmacy cleanliness.
Maintain job knowledge and skills (e.g. research, meetings, webinars, seminars, conferences, continuing education).
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college or university required.
One (1) year of long-term care, acute care or community pharmacy experience required.
Pharmacist with current Nebraska pharmacy license upon hire and maintained in good standing throughout employment required.
One (1) year of electronic medical record experience required.
Vaccination administration certifications required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.

Work is generally performed in an office setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. weekends, extra hours, emergency call-in). Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.
Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, frequent walking, reaching, and occasional balancing, kneeling, and bending. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
