Job description:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Compliance Officer or designee, coordinating and implementing programs to meet educational and training needs of the Douglas County Health Center (DCHC) long-term care employees.
Compensation: $31.70 – $47.78/Hour
Essential Functions:
Develop and administer appropriate training programs and educational calendars ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, and policy/procedures.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Provide clinical education (e.g. orientation, skills, compliance, in-service sessions) and the development/modification of educational programs.
Provide resident care education with a continuum of care integrating theory, research and critical thinking.
Identify clinical unit-specific staff competencies and best practices in collaboration with nurse leaders and Clinical Nurse Educator.
Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g. leadership team, other educators, content experts) analyzing needs and developing, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining education programs.
Track and maintain training (e.g. orientation, Mandt, Emergency Preparedness, BLS/CPR, CEUs, medical education, Relias Learning, point of care education).
Set up new employees in Relias Learning System and PointClickCare EMR system.
Work with the Compliance Officer and other leaders in the development of a training plan addressing regulatory requirements and other topics identified in the facility assessment and/or needs assessment.
Coordinate, present, and oversee annual competency training/testing, orientation, training and refresher training.
Observe, assess, and record data relating to individual educational needs.
Collaborate with other departments ensuring transition of the new employee, role and completion of job duties.
Cooperate with the Administrator during training program evaluation.
Maintain tracking system (e.g. attendance, training completion, records, instructional materials, speaker qualifications) compiling data, preparing reports and presenting recommendations.
Provide staff opportunities to earn continuing education credits.
Promote a safe working environment through various activities (e.g. education, safe policy review, safety procedure enforcement).
Assist Compliance Office in achieving and enforcing accreditation (e.g. Health Facilities Accreditation Program [HFAP] and Commission, Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities [CARF] standards, participating in site visits, planning, implementing and overseeing corrective action).
Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and other quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in planning and determining training objectives (e.g. analyzing effectiveness, content delivery, participant response) and implement modifications.
Treat residents with dignity and respect promoting and protecting resident rights.
Report noncompliance, confidentiality breaches, retaliation or discrimination to appropriate staff.
Report allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation or mistreatment of residents, cooperating with investigations.
Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
Report work-related injuries and illnesses to supervisor.
Serves on departmental or committee meetings.
Assist with the development and adherence to an education budget, informing Compliance Officer of resource or equipment needs.
Participate in Life Safety and emergency drills and trainings; respond during facility emergencies.
Maintain knowledge and job skills (e.g. laws/regulations, accreditation standards, training technology).
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Registered Nurse with a current Nebraska Nursing license or a compact state recognized by the Nebraska Board of Nursing upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.*
Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience required.*
Long-term, acute, skilled rehabilitation, skilled nursing or mental health experience required.
Basic life support/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS/CPR) certification within three (3) months of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Electronic health record experience required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check, physical assessment, and conditional offer drug screen and medical review required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed in a healthcare facility. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, shifts, weekends, overtime/extra hours, holidays, and emergency call-in). Work involves potential exposure to biohazards and risk of injury. Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources, emergencies, and uncooperative/irate individuals.
Work requires physical activity, including extended periods of standing, walking, frequent walking, bending, reaching, occasional sitting, kneeling, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
