Reporting to the Hagel and Technical Services Archivist, the Project Archivist is responsible for the arrangement and description of the 115 c.f. archival collection of the Great Plains Black History Museum (GPBHM) following archival standards and best practices in UNO Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections. The Project Archivist will also participate in promoting the collection through public programs, social media posts, and other outreach activities with GPBHM and UNO Libraries colleagues. The “Access to the Archives of the Great Plains Black History Museum” (2024-2026) is a project with a grant-funded, time specific position.

The current projection of completion is two years.

Using established archival standards and best practices, arranges and describes archival collections including paper, photographs, and other formats under the direction of an experienced archivist. Performs basic preservation work, such as rehousing material into archival enclosures, flattening documents, and identifying material and formats in need of advanced treatment or duplication.

Required Education
Bachelor’s degree

Required Experience
Knowledge of the arrangement and description of archival collections in an archives, library, or museum setting.
Knowledge of Black history.
Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and software including working knowledge of standard computer office applications, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong attention to detail to be able to consistently apply rules and standards for archival arrangement and description.

Will consider an equivalent combination or education and experience.
