Position Summary

Under close supervision, the Intern – Information Security provides support to departments and end-users utilizing the District’s Technology solutions in their daily and regular business operations. Using standard business methodologies and processes, gathers, analyzes, and documents the business rules and requirements from internal functional business units. Works with more experienced analysts during the implementation of solutions to meet identified business needs, including the accurate implementation of District policy, practice, and process within the Technology Solutions. Participates as a contributor in Information Technology related projects or initiatives outside of their direct area of responsibility. The Information Security intern may be assigned work on cyber security or other IT disciplines.

Education

•Required – Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree or Masters program in Information Security, Information Assurance, Computer Science, or a related field. and

•Required – Strong candidates pursuing an Associated Degree will also be considered for this position.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing

•Required – Pre-employment Background Check & Drug Screen Upon Hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•Academic knowledge or introductory experience in cyber security functional or technical areas. (Entry proficiency)

•Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of enterprise software. (Intermediate proficiency)

•Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required. (Entry proficiency)

•Capable of organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and requests. (Entry proficiency)

•Ability to successfully meet deadlines. (Entry proficiency)

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills to assist internal and external customers, co-workers, and management professionally, regardless of provocation. (Entry proficiency)

•Ability to focus on business solutions and results first before technology. (Entry proficiency)

•Ability to listen, comprehend, and effectively document business user needs. (Entry proficiency)

Essential Functions

•Interface with one or more functional areas of the District, serving as a cyber security liaison to the group.

•Operate as a technical resource and provide support on one or more cyber security functions.

•Gather, define, and document business requirements on behalf of the business process owners, business system owners, subject matter experts, users, and other stakeholders, then develop functional specifications suitable for implementation.

•Participate in all phases of the system development lifecycle including testing.

•Work with colleagues in the design and performance of acceptance tests, change control, and release management processes.

•Act within the spirit of District and Department values.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

•Office: Work is primarily performed in an office setting amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, office lighting and noise.
