Job description:
Incumbent works under the direction of the Chief Engineer or designee, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting building systems in accordance with safety and compliance regulations.
Compensation: $31.87 – $43.58/Hour
Essential Functions:
Install, inspect, adjust, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform repairs to building mechanical systems and components (e.g. HVAC, boilers, water heaters, pumps, generators, compressors, ventilation, fluid lines/systems, electrical systems, component parts).
Provide prompt, efficient, and responsive service.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Identify, diagnose, correct or recommend action to supervisor.
Operate electrical test equipment and analyze devices, determining potential system or equipment failures.
Adhere to safety measures.
Determine necessary equipment and materials, and requisition parts and supplies.
Interpret drawings and blueprints for structural mechanical, electrical, and general facilities operating systems.
Perform electrical maintenance (e.g. disconnecting, replacing, rerouting electrical systems).
Perform minor braising and welding repairs.
Prioritize work requests and orders according to standard operating methods.
Coordinate and oversee contractors.
Complete work orders.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations.
Maintain job knowledge and skills (e.g. research, meetings, webinars, seminars, conferences, continuing education).
Monitor equipment technology and trends.
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.*
Two (2) years of operating, maintaining, or repairing commercial HVAC systems experience required.*
Third (3rd) Grade Engineer License required.
Valid driver’s license and own transportation upon hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of pre-employment criminal record check, conditional offer drug screen and physical assessment required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed indoors and outdoors. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, weekends, hours, holidays, overtime/extra hours, emergency call-in). Work involves potential exposure to adverse weather, extreme temperatures, vibration, dust, fumes, mechanical/electrical hazards, and biohazards. Incumbent is required to wear personal protective equipment. Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources, uncooperative individuals and emergency situations.
Work requires physical activity, including extended walking, standing, bending, climbing, frequent reaching, and occasional sitting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, pushing and pulling. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing, and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, peripheral and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate computers and other equipment.
