Position Summary: The Human Resources (HR) Manager is responsible for developing and implementing
HR strategies that support the mission of Omaha Children’s Museum; adhering to the highest ethical
standards to help shape culture of the organization. This role will drive the implementation of HR
programs that enhance the employee experience, ensuring that Omaha Children’s Museum continues to
attract, engage and retain top talent. The HR Manager will lead ongoing initiatives including talent
management and development, change management, compensation strategies, benefits, HRIS and
payroll, employee labor relations, onboarding and leave management.
Key Responsibilities:
40% People & Culture
• Professionally and confidentially handle employee relations issues and investigations, and work
with managers to foster coaching and performance excellence
• Work collaboratively with departments to optimize internal events, onboarding,
communications, staff surveys, performance coaching and training needs
• Design and oversee annual review processes that comply with industry best practices, and
work with supervisors on employee performance and improvement plans as needed
• Value diversity of backgrounds & stay up-to-date on changing laws, practices and HR
standards to ensure OCM utilizes recruiting strategies to enhance a diverse, inclusive
workforce that reflects the community we serve
60% Administration, Strategy & Compliance
• Provide HR support and conduct review of all policies, procedures and trainings, including the
employee handbook and onboarding materials on an annual basis
• Responsible for the coordination and management of benefits enrollment and serve as
contact for employee benefits questions
• Ensure accuracy of payroll processing and implementation of the payroll systems for
timekeeping, earnings and deductions & be responsible for labor laws and reporting
requirements
• Evaluate and compare existing HR processes within the organization to implement and
adjust HR systems, optimizing compliance and culture to nationally recognized children’s
museums best practices
• Maintain organized, current and confidential employee files to best practice and compliance
standards and keep employee onboarding & exit checklists current
• Serve as a resource and reviewer of all job descriptions, salary studies and wage
requirements to ensure job descriptions match practical function and comply with
government requirements
• Design and oversee annual review processes that comply with industry best practices, and
work with supervisors on employee performance and improvement plans as needed
• Use data, engagement information and workforce trends to proactively address workforce
challenges, opportunities and strategies
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies:
• 5 or more years comprehensive HR experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Human Resources certification preferred (PHR, SPHR,
SHRM-CP)
• Proficiency in HR software tools for employee engagement and applicant tracking, combined
with experience in analytics
• Possess high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to form professional relationships
across all employee groups
• Strong written and verbal communication skills & effective time and project management, with
attention to detail
Physical Qualification:
• Stand and walk for extended periods to engage with visitors and program participants
• Navigate different areas of the Museum to assist visitors and ensure a positive experience
• Bend, stoop, and reach to perform filing
• Perform repetitive tasks, including administrative work using computer software programs
• Push or pull equipment, such as a small flatbed and wheeled cases
• Lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, including educational materials, art-making supplies, and
cleaning products, as needed
