Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Chief Deputy of Operations or designee, responding to citizen calls providing intervention in crisis situations, de-escalating, assessing, and referring to appropriate community-based resources to meet client long-term needs.

Compensation: $29.71/Hour

Essential Functions:
Assist law enforcement in real-time with social service calls.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Conduct field clinical, social, and risk assessments identifying needs (e.g. aging, youth, mental health, substance use, domestic support), assessing severity of behavioral symptoms, and providing recommendations to law enforcement (e.g. concerning behavior, conducting follow-up).
Support de-escalation efforts through crisis stabilization and hospital/jail diversion.
Provide services to clients using an interpreter or telehealth platforms.
Establish and implement plans successfully engaging clients in relevant services and other resources.
Advocate for access to community resources and services, ensuring need satisfaction and rights protection.
Collaborate with community providers ensuring continuity of care.
Provide outreach and follow-up services.
Practice from a strength-based philosophy and trauma-informed lens.
Complete and collect program documentation (e.g. consents, signatures, registration forms) within time frames.
Maintain written clinical records of services provided.
Uphold the mission and values of Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO).
Collaborate with DCSO supervisors.
Seek guidance in handling difficult client situations and in establishing priorities.
Participate in trainings and Co-Responder program meetings.
Maintain awareness and sensitivity to the organization’s constituents, populations served by employees, and cultural considerations in service delivery.
Provide consultation and training to law enforcement.
Maintain DCSO issued equipment (e.g. cell phone, ballistic vest, computer/tablet, vehicle).
Assist with aggregate outcome data collection (e.g. number of social service requests received, response time, diversion volume, linkage to services information).
Promote a positive image of DCSO (e.g. professionalism, integrity).
Safely operate a motor vehicle when required to travel on County business.
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or other human service field required.*
Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) or provisional LMHP in the state of Nebraska required. (Applicants who are provisionally licensed as a Psychologist seeking postdoctoral clinical hours for licensure are eligible.)
Two (2) years of human service experience or human service training required.*
Law Enforcement clearances as identified by the participating Sheriff’s Office required.
Valid driver’s license and own transportation upon of hire and maintained throughout employment required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed in a hybrid work environment, office and field setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically dependent upon agency needs; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, shifts, weekends, overtime/extra hours, holidays, emergency call-in). Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.

Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, frequent walking, reaching, and occasional balancing, kneeling and bending. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.

Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
