Job description:
The Workforce Development Specialist provides expert personalized guidance and support to individuals seeking career advancement, transitions, or general career development. The Specialist is responsible for providing career guidance, employment readiness training, and job seeking assistance to individuals seeking sustainable employment opportunities. The role includes helping clients clarify their career goals, developing strategies for achieving them, and overcoming obstacles that may arise in the process. This role supports individuals in identifying career paths, obtaining necessary certifications or training, and exploring opportunities in the trades and other industries. The Workforce Development Specialist also plays a key role in coordinating job fairs, employer spotlights, and workforce-related programs, including summer youth employment initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Career Coaching & Employment Services
• Provides one-on-one career assistance providing participants with job seeking skills, skill development,
personal awareness, motivation, self-esteem, (SMART) career goal setting, resume development, interview
techniques and other activities as determined needed.
• Provide support for clients transitioning into new roles, industries, or professions, including guidance on
transferable skills, understanding their strengths, navigating challenges, and future aspirations.
• Teach clients effective job search techniques, including networking, job boards, and strategies for reaching out
to potential employers.
• Conduct career assessments to help clients identify their skills, interests, values, and professional goals.
• Connect job seekers with employment opportunities, training programs, apprenticeships, continuing
education opportunities, and certifications, particularly in high-demand industries and the trades to help
clients grow professionally.
• Support individuals in overcoming employment barriers, such as lack of experience, limited education, or
other workforce challenges.
• Knowledge and ability to work with diverse populations to include respect for all ethnic cultural socioeconomic
age, religious differences, and individuals with special needs or disabilities
• Help clients build and strengthen their personal brand both online and offline.
Workforce Development & Program Coordination
• Develop and facilitate employment readiness workshops on topics such as resume writing, interviewing skills,
mock interviews, professional etiquette, and workplace expectations.
• Work closely with training providers, trade programs, and community partners to offer career advancement
opportunities.
• Track and analyze employment outcomes, program participation, and success rates to assess impact and
improve services.
• Ability to evaluate data in order to expand on featured programming.
• Maintain knowledge of labor market trends, industry demands, and workforce development best practices to
inform program strategies.
Employer Engagement & Event Coordination
• Develop and maintain relationships with employers, training institutions, and workforce development
partners to create job and training opportunities.
• Coordinate employer spotlights, hiring events, and job fairs, ensuring strong employer participation and
engagement.
• Facilitate connections between employers and qualified job seekers to enhance employment opportunities.
• Serve as a liaison between businesses and program participants to ensure successful job placements and
career advancement.
• Ability to conduct outreach and recruitment activities.
Summer & Youth Workforce Programs
• Support the coordination and implementation of summer youth employment programs, including outreach,
recruitment, and employer partnerships.
• Provide career coaching and job readiness support to youth participants, helping them develop workplace
skills and career pathways.
• Collaborate with employers to create meaningful internships and job opportunities for program participants.
Administrative & Reporting Duties
• Maintain accurate records to include case notes, track participant progress, and document employment
outcomes using program databases i.e., Salesforce.
• Prepare reports on workforce development activities, program effectiveness, and participant success stories.
• Ensure compliance with grant requirements and funding guidelines related to workforce programs.
• Complete monthly reports and outreach reports on a timely basis
• Administer pre and post-tests to evaluate knowledge gain
• Administer satisfaction surveys to all job seekers who participate in any FEC initiative/programming
Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in workforce development, career counseling, human services, education, or a related field
(or equivalent experience).
• Experience in career coaching, employment services, workforce development, or related fields. Certification in
career coaching or counseling is preferred.
• Strong understanding of career pathways, industry trends, job search tools and strategies, and workforce
training opportunities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to build relationships with job seekers, employers, and community partners.
• Strong event coordination and project management skills.
• Knowledge of employment laws, workforce funding programs, and industry certifications.
• Proficiency in Salesforce, Microsoft Office and workforce-related databases.
• Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for coaching, including Zoom, LinkedIn, and other career
resources.
• Knowledge of professional office software systems and maintenance of confidential records for in-house,
state, or federal case management systems.
• Ability to host presentations, facilitate workshops, compose accurate written, and electronic communication
and documentation.
• Ability to work independently and with a team, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
This is a Full-time position with occasional evening or weekend events. This is an office-based position that will require travel for in-person meetings or events (for ex. career fairs, visiting employer sites, community events, etc.).
MODERATE: Lifting to 25 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting or carrying such articles as files, packages, or deliveries. Sitting/walking and standing are required often. Occasional exposure to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature or noise, etc.)
