Job description:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Clerk of the District Court or designee, managing, supervising, and monitoring the functions and work activities of an assigned unit in accordance with established state statutes, Nebraska Supreme Court rules, Fourth Judicial District Court rules, and the Clerk of the District Court policies and procedures.

Compensation: $32.06 – $47.85/Hour

Essential Functions:
Supervise assigned staff (e.g. hiring, orienting, training, scheduling, coaching, monitoring, evaluating, recommending personnel actions).
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
Comply with Civil Service policies and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
Perform administrative functions and coordinate activities (e.g. jury panels, jury supervision, record maintenance).
Utilize training programs and improve the delivery of service.
Develop and implement procedures and work methods, recommending improvements and assisting in the creation of procedures and training materials.
Assist in conducting various organizational and operational studies supporting proposed jury management system modifications.
Monitor relevant and proposed legislation determining effect on jury services.
Monitor technology needs (e.g. Jury Management System, E-Juror, court web page, Jury Interactive Voice Response), working with Clearview evaluating and ensuring accurate statistics, and oversee development and maintenance of Jury Website.
Prepare and maintain records and reports (e.g. statistical, management).
Create a term/quarter master list and mail qualifying questionnaires.
Process questionnaires (e.g. determining disqualifications according to statue, excusing hardships) in the Juror Management System.
Draw pools, mailing summons and following up on unreturned questionnaires or failure to respond to the summons.
Prepare jury lists and seating charts, maintaining attendance records and processing jury service payment.
Read the official verdict to the court.
Serve as a liaison for judges, courtroom staff, and court managers ensuring jury system operations and juror utilization.
Respond to inquiries and complaints referring inquiries above level of expertise to subject matter experts.
Plan and conduct jury orientations (e.g. speaking to prospective jurors).
Maintain job knowledge and skills (e.g. research, meetings, trainings, webinars, seminars, continuing education).
Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Education and Work Experience and Other Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.*
Four (4) years of clerical experience required.*
Two (2) years of MSOffice required.
Notary Public or eligible to become a Notary Public in the State of Nebraska required.
Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen and physical assessment required.
*Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Work is generally performed in an office and court room setting. Noise level is usually moderate. Work hours are typically standard day-shift hours; however, schedule may vary (e.g. days, shifts, weekends, overtime/extra hours, holidays, emergency call-in). Work may be stressful when dealing with time constraints, multiple/changing priorities, limited resources and uncooperative/irate individuals.
Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting and standing, frequent walking, reaching, and occasional balancing, kneeling, bending, climbing. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
