About the job:
As an HR Assistant, you will be responsible for providing administrative support within the Human Resources team. You will execute HR duties related to data entry, filing, recruitment, benefits, onboarding and orientation, and employee status changes. You will also communicate with employees and answers questions promptly and accurately.
Duties include:
Support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources team.
Assist with recruitment activities such as posting open positions, screening applications for minimum qualifications, conducting HR phone interviews, and scheduling site interviews as requested.
Assist with pre-hire onboarding. (e.g., Preparing personnel and health files, checking references, running background checks, obtaining transcripts, preparing offer letters, tracking onboarding items, etc.)
Assist with new employee orientation and staff training.
Provide assistance to candidates and employees in a courteous and timely fashion, properly discerning when to escalate questions up through the HR team.
Process and file forms and other documents in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Assist with employee status changes in the HRIS and other relevant systems as appropriate. (e.g., Pay increases, job title changes, FTE changes, employee separations, benefit adjustments, etc.)
Assist with employee benefits enrollments and terminations.
Assist with FMLA/LOA/ADA requests as needed.
Assist with STD/LTD/Worker’s Compensations claims as needed.
Send exit surveys and other pertinent information to employees who are separating from the organization.
Assist with employment verification requests in a timely fashion and in accordance with internal policies.
Participate in payroll support activities as needed.
About you:
We are looking for the following qualifications:
Associate’s degree in Human Resources or related field required, bachelor’s preferred.
Previous work experience in Human Resources preferred.
aPHR certification preferred.
Highly organized with strong time management skills.
Strong knowledge of, or willingness and ability to learn, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. (i.e., FLSA, EEOC, FMLA, ADA, DOL, etc.)
Knowledge of, or willingness and ability to learn, Head Start Program Performance Standards related to employment.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with employees from various backgrounds.
High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.)
Familiarity with, or willingness and ability to learn, an HRIS/ATS system, preferably ADP.
