The City of Council Bluffs is currently hiring for the position of Police Officer (Certified)!

Pay: $29.15/HR with step increases to $45.54/HR
Hiring Bonus for Currently Certified Police Officers: $10,000 hiring bonus to any certified peace officer who successfully completed the hiring process, accepts a position with the City, and whose certification is from the State of Iowa or a state that the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy recognizes and has a reciprocal agreement with.
Lateral Transfer: New employees, who at the time of hire, are currently certified law enforcement officers and have appropriate sworn experience as stated below are eligible for lateral transfer if they meet the following conditions:
• Completion of 2-4 years of service shall be paid at Step 3: $31.84/HR
• Completion of 4-5 years of service shall be paid at Step 4: $35.59/HR
• Completion of 5 or more years of service shall be paid at Step 5: $37.15/HR

Physical Examination Date: December 9, 2023 – Candidates who are currently certified peace officers through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy will not be required to attend the physical agility exam. Candidates who are certified peace officers from a different state will be required to attend the physical exam.
Responsibilities: The work of this class involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals and the general enforcement of laws and ordinates in a designated area or an assigned shift or on special assignments.
Requirements:
• Certified peace officer through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy or by a law enforcement agency accepted by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• United States Citizen
• Must be age 21 by the test date
• Must be able to obtain a Driver’s License from state of residence
